The course, featuring the Ghisallo, Muro di Sormano and Civiglio climbs, closed the season of sportive events organized by RCS Sport/RCS Active Team.

More than 1,400 sportive riders participated in the Gran Fondo Il Lombardia raced on the streets around Lake Como that saw Vincenzo Nibali winning Saturday’s Il Lombardia on the very same finish line.

On the 110.3km course riders faced the three legendary climbs, one by one: first the Madonna del Ghisallo after 45.4km, then the challenging Muro di Sormano (after 67.5km) and, just before the finish line, the Civigilio.

The Gran Fondo Il Lombardia saw participants from 25 different countries: the most from the host nation Italy being joined by riders from Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Colombia, Denmark, United Arab Emirates, France, United Kingdom, Germany, Israel, Latvia, the Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Poland, Czech Republic, Russia, Spain, USA, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand and Ukraine.

Gran Fondo Il Lombardia ended the 2017 season of sportive events organised by RCS Sport/RCS Active Team, which started in Tuscany in March with the Gran Fondo Strade Bianche, followed in May by the Giro d’Italia Team Time Trial, raced on the very same course as this year’s Giro d’Italia final stage.

The final pasta party, always very well received by the riders, was the perfect occasion for the “Arrivederci!” to 2018.
